We spent Columbus Day weekend in West Virginia to attend the wedding of Lissa's best friend, Lindsey.
Kent has a list of most beautiful places in each state, so we stopped at Babcock State Park as we drove to Charleston, WV, where the wedding was to be held.
There was a picturesque grist mill on the river there, and it was very pretty. We also stopped at an scenic overlook to see the New River Valley.
You can see that we were way too early for any fall colors.
Our last stop along the was was Cathedral Falls. It's located right next to the highway, so was just a quick stop.
Charleston is the capital of West Virginia, so one of the first things we saw as we drove into the city was the state capital building.
We took a tour of the capital with the Stinson family, and posed by the governor's desk,
and by the speech making podium.
We also saw the chambers where both houses of the state congress convene.
Kent brought calzador and he joined us in the photo below.
At the open house the night before the wedding there was a grand piano, so Kiera sat down and played some songs by memory.
The wedding was held outdoors at 11am.
Unfortunately, it was about 85 degrees outside by the time we were being served the meal, which was also outside. We didn't stay long after we ate our lunch because it was so hot.
So apparently someone in the United States decides where the "coolest" small towns in the country are.
Two of them happened to be not too far off our route on our way back to Virginia, so we drove through them to see how they earned the honor.
They were indeed cute little towns, one even had a park with a gazebo in it, straight out of a Hallmark movie!!
We had a very nice weekend in wild and wonderful West Virginia.
